“Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain”
Psalms 217:1
6 “let your ear be attentive and your eyes open, to hear the prayer of your servant that I now pray before you day and night for the people of Israel your servants, confessing the sins of the people of Israel, which we have sinned against you. Even I and my father's house have sinned. 7 We have acted very corruptly against you and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, and the rules that you commanded your servant Moses.” Nehemiah 1:6-7
Spiritual Awakening
/ Reverence and the Fear of the Lord:
We desire to see a Spiritual
Awakening in our city, to see people who are hungry and thirsty to know God and
to follow Him. We want our city to be known as a place where people walk in a
reverence and fear of the Lord. The way we live our lives is what people see.
16 “I do not cease to give thanks for you,
remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father
of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge
of him, 18 having the eyes of your
hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called
you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his
power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might
20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him
from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and
dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in
the one to come.” Ephesians 1:16-21
14 “Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.” 29 “For our God is a consuming fire.” Heb. 12:14; 29
Praying
Against Spiritual Strongholds / Bind the Spirits of Demonic
Influence:
Our battles are not against the people in our city,
but with the spiritual forces of darkness. We bind the powers in the heavenlies
that are at work to control the life of our city and to keep the people in
bondage
12” For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6: 12
29 “Or how can someone enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house. 30 Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.” Matthew 12:29-30
19 “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:1
Prayer for Leadership and Authorities / Unity among Pastors and Churches:
We pray for all those in civic and spiritual leadership in Greenville and the surrounding area. We pray for wisdom as they lead and unity for God’s plans and purposes to be fulfilled
1“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” I Timothy 2:1-4
8 “Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind.” I Peter 3:8
Pray for
the Welfare and Prosperity of our City:
We pray and proclaim God’s
blessing over our region and pray that it will be restored to its original
intent
11 “By the blessing of the upright a city
is exalted, but by the mouth of the wicked it is overthrown.” Proverbs
11:11
Families:
We pray for marriages, and families
(including single parent households) to be healed, restored, and strengthened.
6 “And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.” Malachi 4:6
Racial Reconciliation:
As God has called us to walk in peace and unity, so we pray that our diversity of culture will be made our strength and become a testimony of God’s love to those who are watching.
28 “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there
is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are
all one in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:28
12 “For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him.” Romans 10:12
The Power of the Holy Spirit to Fill Us / Be at work in our City:
We realize our need
of the Holy Spirit at work in us and in our city. We pray that He will fill us,
lead us, and empower us as His witnesses. We pray that as only He can do, He
will convict of sin, righteousness, and judgment.
4 “And while staying with them
he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of
the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me; 5 for John
baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit
not many days from now.” 6 So when they had come together, they
asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He
said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has
fixed by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when
the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem
and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:4-8
8 “And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:” John 16:
